New Friends, New Beginning !

Friendship

She said, I’ve misunderstood what friendship is,
I must have misunderstood what it should be;
Or maybe I misunderstood that it’s not meant to last,
Or at least not like I thought that it would, you see.

I suppose we don’t realize how people change,
How they evolve and grow or not,
I suppose we are very unaware,
Of the burdens they carry which rot.

I suppose that lack of communication,
And lack of compassion are key,
To why doors get locked and can’t be opened,
And friendships slip away from you and me.

It seems we forgot how to treat one another,
It seems like such a loss,
But these things redirect us to other better things,
And a trade-off is the cost.
But what we take away from it,
Is always our gift to keep,
And if they mistreat us for reasons unknown,
We must move on after we weep.

Sometimes we don’t have enough defined boundaries,
Because we are in a space of misplaced trust,
We trusted that being to be there for us,
But on the hinges of their heart was unseen rust.
We mistakenly thought we could be ourselves,
That we would be accepted fully as we are,
But what we seem to fail to realize,
Is that can’t happen due to their scars.

Their scars or ours can create barriers,
Things needing healing will eventually come out,
And the face of the wounds when the masks falls off,
Is what our learning experiences are all about.
To recognize the wound in another,
Or to recognize the wound in ourselves,
Is the key to taking a step back from taking it personally,
So we are not drawn into that hell.

New friends will always be sent to us,
New blessings to replace what we miss,
We must not stay too attached to anything,
Or we will steal away our own bliss.
Here’s to the friends who have loved us,
Here’s to the friends we have lost,
Here’s to the new friends we haven’t yet met,
And here’s to the blessings not affected by loss.
